Is this thing on?

Today I decided to set up a blog.

Why did I do that?

It’s because I have things to say. That’s why. Now, I don’t think that the things I have to say are best kept to myself, but at the same time I acknowledge that this is probably the easiest platform to get my voice out and across the interwebs.

So, what am I going to talk about on this damned thing anyway? Well, I’m going to talk about whatever comes to mind and whatever occurs to me. I think about all sorts of things, but a lot of what I hope to do on this blog is speculate on ways that mankind could progress, more often than not I will try to veer towards the more positive outcomes. These aren’t so much predictions, as hopes that are somewhat grounded in the realm of possibility. These aren’t stories either, I should emphasize that. I’m a creative writer as well. I write short and novel-length fiction at times, but I will try not to hawk that here too much. Here, I will mostly just be writing about the world around us and different thoughts I have about it, thought-experiments more than narratives.

Some of the stuff I say, may be false or functioning under misconceptions. Once I figure out this damned site and how all this works I will be allowing comments and I will try to respond if anyone wants to weigh in or correct me. I’m open to outside input and if I state something that you just know is wrong, draw my attention to it. I will fix it once I research it further  myself.

I also have to ask myself, who the heck am I to talk about anything? And the answer is simply that I am a moderately educated man with an inquiring mind who has the desire to write and question and so I think I have an obligation to do something in this world. Do I think anyone is going to care about this blog? No, not really, realistically. But I still want to write it.

With that said, I would like to think that I look at the world in a slightly unique way and that some of the ideas and thought experiments I will take you along for may just add a dimension to the way you see or consider the world. That’s all I’m hoping to do here, just influence the minds of my readers and help to evoke some positive change in this world.

Because friends, I don’t think the world is as doom and gloom as everyone thinks, but I do think things need to evolve and change rapidly to cope with the oncoming changes that we face. We need to become better, more aware.

My next post, my first real post, is going to be about the environmental issues we face and what I think will happen when everything comes to a head.

The piece after that, I’m hoping to get into automation and how that may effect our economy and by proxy our lives.

The next piece I’m going to get into some thoughts and questions I’ve always had about our space program.

That’s enough going off about this blog and myself for one day. I hope that I’ve at least begun to pique your interest. That’s all for now.
